Portrait commission

We are committed to creating a work of art that will endure as a lasting imprimatur for yourself, your colleagues, your family and your descendants. Our goal is to build lasting relationships with clients and to ensure we capture more than a fleeting image.

We guarantee archival grade quality materials and classic craftsmanship, ensuring more than 500 years of longevity.

THE PORTRAIT PROCESS IS REALIZED IN Four STAGES:

Beginning stage: The client meets with the artist for an initial consult to discuss ideas and goals for the portrait. A plan is developed for a portrait location, schedule of sittings, size of painting, and timeline of the project.

Composition and design: The client and artist meet for the first sitting.
The first sitting serves as an informal opportunity for the client to settle into a comfortable pose and for the artist to observe the correct angles and lighting that work best for the portrait.
The remaining time is spent developing a selection of sketches that the artist and client can discuss and use toward the final design.
Reference photographs are taken at this time for the artist to use in developing the final design.
The final design is sent to the client for approval or revision.

Preliminary painting: The client and artist meet for the second sitting, where a miniature painting that serves as a colour study for the final painting is created.
The client sits while the artist paints and observes the client from life.

Actual painting stage: The client and artist continue the same pose and sittings in the same location for another 5-7 meetings.
During this time, the artist paints the client from life.
In between, the artist will continue developing the painting from photographic reference.
The goal of the final painting is to faithfully follow the plan of the original design and additionally, to capture the personality, character,
and the life presence of the client which he/she presents to the artist during these sittings.

The finished painting is submitted to the client for final approval.

Optional post-painting services include varnishing, framing, and unveiling, depending on city we serve.
